Why I Chose Psychoanalytical Lens

I chose the Psychoanalytical Lens because I feel it would be interesting to over analyze each character in the text and try to predict their next motives. This lens also interests me because it can reveal the characters true desires on why they are doing or thinking such thoughts and actions. I have learned about the Psychoanalytical lens through historical events and previous books I’ve read. One book that reveals the characters true desires though their actions is Hamlet. My interest in the lens comes from reading about Hamlet’s inner conflict in the story and how it affects the outcome of the story.

The Psychoanalytical Lens makes me dig underneath the surface of what the author is presenting to you in the story. It makes me question everything that a character says or does during the text.

I was considering the New Historical Lens, but I thought the conflict between characters and their emotions might be a bit more interesting than referencing a time period or events during the time the book was written. I am hoping to fully understand the Psychoanalytical Lens by the time I finish this project. I would like to be able to use this type of lens in my life to better understand other works of literature and others perspectives.
